One way to prepare for a job search: take pictures

by: Joanne Meehl

If you're anticipating a job search ahead, what's one way to prepare?

Take some pictures. And I don't mean your LinkedIn profile photo, although yes, you should have a good one of those.

What I'm talking about is photos of you at work. Not portraits or everyone-look-at-the-camera-now, but candids of actual work being done. With you in them, of course.

Words are powerful and a words-based description of a team in action, including you, on a project is always good. But compare that to a photo of the team in action -- including you -- on a project, and you have now put yourself in the potential employer's mind and mind's eye?in their open job. A picture is, well, worth 1,000 words.

So take those photos now. You'll not only have nice memories of co-workers. You'll have a powerful portfolio of you doing what you love.
